As a key member of our Staff Counsel team, you will play a critical role in researching laws, preparing legal briefs, and rendering opinions on liability, damages, and value. Job Highlights:

• Position: Associate Counsel - Portland, OR (Remote)
• Location: Remote (initial 2-3 days in-office training, then remote with occasional in-person case appearances)
• Start Date: Immediate openings available
• Compensation: Competitive salary ($110,000 - $171,000 per year) and comprehensive benefits package

Key Responsibilities:

• Research laws and prepare legal briefs, opinions, and memoranda
• reputed company opinions on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department
• Prepare and handle pleadings, motions, and discovery, including depositions and examinations under oath
• Defend cases by trial or dispositive hearing, as applicable

Requirements:

• 2-6+ years of experience in a reputed company field (insurance defense or civil litigation)
• Juris Doctor degree
• Admission to the Oregon Bar
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organization, reputed company setting, and multi-tasking skills
• Ability to travel as required (including trials, hearings, and depositions)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Civil litigation experience
• Insurance defense-reputed company litigation experience
