Position Overview

The Lead Director of Data Science & Patient Safety Analytics will spearhead a high‑performing team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers focused on remote data entry, opinion sharing, and advanced AI/ML solutions. Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Patient Safety and Pharmacy Operations, this role will design and execute analytical strategies that protect patients, optimize pharmacy workflows, and drive continuous improvement across the arenaflex retail ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Define the vision and roadmap for patient safety analytics, aligning AI initiatives with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
  • AI‑Driven Solutions: Lead the development and deployment of machine‑learning models that detect, prioritize, and mitigate patient safety incidents across all pharmacy locations.
  • Data Governance & Quality: Oversee the end‑to‑end data pipeline—from remote data entry to model validation—ensuring accuracy, compliance (HIPAA, GDPR), and reproducibility.
  • Cross‑Functional Collaboration: Partner with senior leaders in pharmacy operations, IT, compliance, and corporate strategy to translate analytical insights into actionable business processes.
  • Team Development: Recruit, mentor, and grow a diverse team of data scientists, analysts, and engineers; create individualized learning plans and foster a culture of continuous learning.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives for non‑technical audiences, including executive leadership and frontline pharmacy staff.
  • Innovation Advocacy: Champion the adoption of emerging technologies (e.g., generative AI, edge computing) to solve novel patient safety challenges.
  • Performance Measurement: Establish KPIs and dashboards that track the impact of analytics initiatives on safety outcomes, operational efficiency, and cost savings.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all analytical processes adhere to industry standards, privacy laws, and internal policies, maintaining the highest ethical standards.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Data Science, Engineering, or a related STEM field. Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) preferred.
  • Experience: Minimum 8 years of experience in the product development lifecycle (SDLC) with at least 6 years leading high‑performing data science or analytics teams.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep proficiency in SQL, Python, and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI). Experience with machine‑learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit‑learn.
  • Domain Knowledge: Demonstrated experience in healthcare or pharmacy analytics, with a solid understanding of patient safety regulations (HIPAA, HITECH).
  • Leadership Skills: Proven ability to inspire, coach, and manage multidisciplinary teams, driving results in fast‑paced environments.
  • Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to influence senior stakeholders and present technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.
  • Problem‑Solving: Strong analytical mindset with a track record of designing innovative solutions to complex, data‑intensive problems.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in Data Science, Machine Learning, or a related discipline.
  • Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with real‑time inference pipelines and deployment of AI models in production environments.
  • Experience with natural language processing (NLP) for opinion mining and sentiment analysis.
  • Knowledge of statistical methods for causal inference and A/B testing.
  • Track record of publishing research or contributing to open‑source AI projects.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical AI practices and data privacy.

Core Competencies

  • Strategic Thinking: Ability to see the big picture, set long‑term goals, and align day‑to‑day activities with overarching business objectives.
  • Collaboration: Skilled at building strong relationships across functions, fostering trust, and driving consensus.
  • Adaptability: Comfortable navigating ambiguity, shifting priorities, and evolving technology landscapes.
