Why This Role Matters

In today’s data‑driven world, the ability to process, store, and analyze massive streams of information in real time is a competitive advantage. As a Senior Data Engineer at arenaflex, you will be at the heart of our distributed data platform, shaping the architecture that powers critical payment and fraud‑detection services. Your work will directly influence the reliability, speed, and security of transactions for millions of users, making a tangible impact on the global financial ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain high‑throughput, low‑latency data pipelines that operate across hybrid cloud environments.
  • Collaborate with product owners, data scientists, and software engineers to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Lead the creation of detailed architectural diagrams, component specifications, and performance benchmarks for subsystems and services.
  • Write clean, production‑ready code in Java or Scala, adhering to best practices for readability, testability, and maintainability.
  • Develop proof‑of‑concept prototypes to evaluate emerging technologies such as stream processing frameworks, new storage engines, and novel data models.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, open‑source projects, and best‑in‑class patterns; champion the adoption of innovative tools that reduce latency and increase throughput.
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and provide technical guidance to foster a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Partner with cross‑functional teams—including security, compliance, and DevOps—to ensure data pipelines meet regulatory standards and operational SLAs.
  • Drive a culture of experimentation, encouraging rapid iteration, failure‑tolerant design, and data‑driven decision making.
  • Participate in on‑call rotations and incident response, applying root‑cause analysis to improve system resilience.

Essential Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of professional experience designing and implementing data processing systems using Java or Scala.
  • Data Engineering Skills: Hands‑on experience with distributed data stores such as Cassandra, Elasticsearch, or similar NoSQL technologies.
  • Streaming Expertise: Familiarity with real‑time messaging platforms (e.g., Apache Kafka) and the ability to build low‑latency ingestion pipelines.
  • Cloud Proficiency: Practical knowledge of containerization (Docker) and orchestration platforms (Kubernetes, OpenShift) for deploying scalable services.
  • Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC): Experience participating in agile ceremonies, writing unit/integration tests, and using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Problem‑Solving Ability: Demonstrated capacity to troubleshoot complex distributed systems and propose robust, production‑grade solutions.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills

  • Advanced experience with stream processing frameworks such as Apache Flink or Spark Structured Streaming.
  • Deep understanding of data modeling, serialization formats (Avro, Protobuf), and memory management in JVM‑based languages.
  • Hands‑on exposure to DevOps practices, including continuous integration, continuous deployment, and infrastructure as code.
  • Experience designing micro‑services architectures and implementing service‑mesh patterns for resilient communication.
  • Knowledge of security best practices for data in motion and at rest, including encryption, tokenization, and compliance frameworks (PCI‑DSS, GDPR).
  • Proven track record of mentoring engineers, delivering technical presentations, and influencing architectural decisions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Core Competencies

  • Analytical Mindset: Ability to dissect large data sets, identify patterns, and translate insights into actionable engineering solutions.
  • Collaboration: Strong team player who thrives in cross‑functional environments and values diverse perspectives.
  • Innovation: Passion for experimenting with new technologies, building prototypes, and iterating quickly.
