General Accountant, Commissions - Copperleaf - Mat Leave Cover (12-18 months)

The General Accountant is responsible for managing variable compensation accounting and supporting the Accounting team with financial reporting, ensuring accuracy in accruals and payment processing.
Responsibilities
- Own monthly, quarterly, and annual variable incentive programs, including MBOs, presale commissions, and sales commissions
- Validate sales performance data, compensation plan eligibility, and payout calculations
- Maintain and update Xactly Incent to reflect earned commissions, adjustments, clawbacks, and payment status
- Reconcile Xactly Incent outputs with internal financial records to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Prepare monthly commission accruals in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Analyze commission trends, variances, and forecast impacts for financial reporting
- Support month-end close activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting schedules
- Partner with FP&A to provide commission-related insights for budgeting and forecasting
- Collaborate with HR and Payroll to ensure timely and accurate release of commissions and MBO payments
- Provide payroll-ready files, approvals, and documentation for each commission cycle
- Resolve discrepancies between payroll records, Xactly Incent, and accounting schedules
- Maintain commission plan documentation, workflows, and internal controls
- Support enhancements to Xactly Incent, including configuration updates, testing, and data validation
- Leverage AI tools and automation to streamline accounting workflows, enhance reporting accuracy, and improve operational efficiency
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 1-2 years of accounting experience, preferably with exposure to commissions or variable compensation
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting and financial reporting
- Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, formulas)
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical thinking, and problem‑solving ability
- Strong communication skills and ability to work cross‑functionally
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast‑paced environment
- High integrity and commitment to accuracy
- Strong process orientation with a continuous improvement mindset
- Comfortable working with large datasets and complex compensation structures
- Experience with Xactly Incent strongly preferred; other commission systems an asset
