Brown & Brown is a company built on meritocracy, rewarding self-starters and those committed to customer service. The Staff Accountant will lead accounting functions for profit centers, ensuring compliance with accounting guidelines and GAAP while preparing financial statements and reports.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares journal entries, reviews general ledger and related financial statements for reasonableness within set deadlines
  • Accumulates and analyzes information for the preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and reports on a monthly basis within set deadlines
  • Prepares and/or reviews monthly bank reconciliations for bank accounts and addresses reconciling items in a timely manner
  • Prepares month-end reports and reconciliations
  • Prepares monthly accrual journal entries for expenses
  • Reviews and analyzes general ledger account balances
  • Answers inquiries from internal and external customers
  • Verifies accuracy of accounting data, and makes recommendations for corrections

Skills

  • A minimum of 1+ years' experience in an accounting or financial role
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite Products (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Good analytical abilities
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Industry software experience a plus
  • Insurance background a plus
